OF MICE AND TOWN-PLANNERS

I haven’t been to Harlow since
a school visit in
the 1950s, 1951 I think,
when it was still a-building.

We were not allowed to wander, go and see,
were shown
into the offices of the Town Planner,
shown
a model of the town as it would one day be.

Is now, perhaps.

I wonder. Is it?
I would like to walk around alone there, free,
touch a tree,
maybe have a drink.
